F&M Looks for Fifth Consecutive CC Title

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's men's golf team returns to the Centennial Conference (CC) Championships this weekend after winning its four consecutive title last season. The Diplomats, winners of eight CC Championships in the last 10 years and nine CC titles overall, have totaled 14 conference championships including wins from the pre-CC era. The 54-hole event, hosted by Muhlenberg at the Brookside Country Club in Macungie, Pa., begins on Friday.

Last season, a 301 team-effort on day three helped F&M to an overall score of 893, just four strokes ahead of second-place finisher Swarthmore, to take its fourth-straight CC Title. Stephen Colodny took the top spot in individual honors, leading every round to finish with a 219. Brad Lankler tied for second with a 222 performance. All five Diplomats finished in the top-20.

The Diplomats rank first in the most recent NCAA Mid-Atlantic regional poll and are favored to repeat as Conference Champions. F&M holds the conference's lowest team scoring average, going into the weekend at 305.71. The Diplomats have taken two first-place finishes this season, first at the Montgomery Cup hosted by Rosemont and then at their own F&M Invitational. F&M has not finished outside of the top-five at any event it has competed at this season.

Ben Mitchell currently sits second amongst CC competitors with a 75.31 average while Justin Lankler holds the fourth spot with a 76.36 average. Seiichiro Nakai ranks seventh with 77.20. Ian Murray comes in at 15th, averaging a 78.55. Steve Nicholas rounds out the five-man roster that will be competing this weekend.
