Diplomats Fall to Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's softball team dropped both contests against Centennial Conference (CC)-opponent Haverford on Saturday. Haverford took the first game in six by an 8-0 score before winning the nightcap 13-2 in five innings. 

The Diplomats' season ended with a 15-18, 7-9 CC record while the Fords earned the top-playoff seed with a 24-10-1, 12-3-1 CC mark. 

Game 1: HC 8, F&M 0 – 6 Innings  

Haverford jumped out to an early lead in the first after a walk and a double placed runners on second and third. A groundout-RBI to the shortstop brought the first score home. The Fords tacked on three more runs in the second off two hits, including two doubles, and an error to take a 4-0 lead. 

F&M looked to get the offense going in the third after back-to-back singles from Jamie Belfer and Sam Martin with two outs on the board, but Haverford came up with the final out.

The Fords increased the deficit to seven in the third; recording three more runs off three hits, three singles, and two errors. Haverford notched the final blow in the sixth, registering the final run off one hit and one error. 

Belfer, Martin, and Caitlyn Erdman led from the plate for the Diplomats.

Sabrina Ryan (10-10) took the loss after throwing for three innings with six hits and two strikeouts. Haverford's Temma Levis (15-2) garnered the win, tossing for five innings with seven strikeouts. 

Game 2: HC 13, F&M 2 – 5 Innings 

Haverford carried the momentum into the second game, taking a decisive 7-0 lead after the first off seven hits, including a home run and two doubles, and three errors.

F&M's offense broke through in the second. Hannah Salvucci singled to center field with one out. Ella Glenn followed with her second home run of the season to clear the bases.

The Fords responded right away with three more runs in the bottom of the second off three hits and one error. Haverford delivered the final blow in the fourth, opening the inning with back-to-back singles and then a three-RBI homer to increase the lead to 13-2.

Salvucci, Glenn, and Robyn Seidman all recorded a hit on the day.

Emily Moll (5-8) registered the loss after throwing for one inning, giving up seven hits. Johanna Batterton (2-3) earned the win, throwing for two innings with one hit and one strikeout.
