MOOSIC, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's golf team dominated the field at the Gino Biondi Memorial Tournament over the weekend. The Diplomats won their second tournament of the fall season, doing so by 18 strokes, as first-year Shane Lawler led the way with medalist honors.
Lawler's victory came as the Diplomats crowded the top of the leaderboard. Lawler was tied with teammate Dominic Sculti for the tournament lead after the first round resumed and concluded on Sunday morning after an opening round 73. Lawler carded a 75 during his second round to best Sculti by just one shot in a tightly-contested finish.
Jas Fuhrer was just two shots off the tournament lead as he turned in the best second round of the tournament with an even-par 71. Fuhrer's score trimmed eight strokes off of his opening round as he totaled 150 strokes during the 36-hole event. Roy Anderson finished in a tie for fourth place as the team's fourth finisher. He finished his first round with a 75 and fired a 77 during his second trip around the links. Michael Gallagher trimmed seven strokes off his first round score, turning in a 75 on Sunday for a total score of 157 which also ranked amongst the top 10 players.
With another team title in their possession, the Diplomats will wrap up the fall season on Monday at the Franklin & Marshall Fall Invitational. Held at the Bent Creek Country Club, the Diplomats will enter all 15 golfers in a field with 12 other teams. Action will get underway at 12 p.m. with a shotgun start.
