LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's golf team got a very strong showing from its "C" team on Monday afternoon as that squad finished in second place during the Franklin & Marshall Fall Invitational. The Diplomats scored 290 with that squad while the "A" team placed third in the field with a score of 296.
Pacing the Diplomats' top performing team on Monday was Troy Kelleher and Chris Dorey each finishing at one-under (70) for the tournament. Matt Durnan and Bryan Ruland joined Shane Lawler at even par as the Diplomats put five players in the top 10.
Will Livingston (+2), Jas Fuhrer (+3), and Roy Anderson (+4) were also among the top 20 golfers in the field of 74 entrants.
Despite Gettysburg capturing the team title, the Diplomats had the top performing squad between one of its three teams on the par-3, par-4, and par-5 holes. Franklin & Marshall's top two performing teams also combined for 37 birdies during the one round. Lawler led the tournament in par-3 scoring at two-under while Dorey and Kelleher was also in the red on those holes. Matt Durnan was the only player in the red for the tournament on par-4s while Dominic Sculti finished even-par on those holes. The "C team dominated the par-5s with Matt Tressler, Ruland, and Kelleher all going two-under, along with Lawler. Tressler and Lawler tied for the tournament lead with six birdies each.
Today's tournament showcased the depth and quality of play that the Diplomats possess. They will look to build on that momentum when they return to the competition links during the spring semester.
