Box Score LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 16 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team picked up a 3-0 victory against visiting Lebanon Valley on Tuesday night. Kane Feudtner picked the perfect time to score his first goal of the season as his tally during the 37th minute of action proved to be the game-winner. The Diplomats (13-2-1) later added two insurance goals during the final minutes against the Dutchmen (12-4). Tonight's match was the rescheduled contest for what was supposed to be the season-opener for both teams before it was previously postponed.
Feudtner's shot resulted in his fourth career goal for the Diplomats and came off the corner kick insert from Shay Adamson. Adamson recorded his team-leading fifth assist of the season on the goal as all of his helpers have come in Franklin & Marshall victories. The goal off of the corner rewarded F&M's persistent efforts all night as the hosts racked up a 6-1 advantage in corner kick attempts under the lights of Tylus Field.
The Diplomats' continued pressure was rewarded with insurance goals during the 85th and 89th minutes. After an initial shot from A.J. Kopacz was saved, Steven Yakita followed that attempt to goal and finished the rebound for the second goal of the match. Yakita then assisted on the final tally as he found Magnus Parente for his third goal of the season. Yakita now has nine goals and five assists on the year.
Franklin & Marshall also held a 24-5 advantage in shots after 90 minutes. The Diplomats created a number of chances, but 10 saves from Lebanon Valley goalie Sean Quick kept his side in the match for much of the evening.
Sam Altman Farrell was called on to make just two saves as the Dutchmen were held without a shot during the second half. The shutout was the keeper's ninth clean sheet of the season. A.J. Kopacz created numerous chances as he took eight shots on the evening, putting five of those attempts on target.
Men's soccer will wrap up the regular season this Saturday against No. 23 Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays have clinched hosting rights for the Centennial Conference Tournament while the Diplomats are currently in a four-way tie for second place in the conference with Gettysburg, Swarthmore, and Washington College. The Diplomats have already clinched a spot in the Centennial Conference Tournament while the second through fifth seeds in next week's conference tournament will be settled on Saturday.
