HANOVER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's golf team finished in third place with a team score of 595 at the Battle of the Burg on Monday. The Diplomats shot 298 as a team for the second lowest score of the day. Gettysburg won the tournament on its home course with a two-day total of 583, while Stevens edged out F&M for the runner-up spot by three strokes.
Dominic Sculti finished with a 149 (+7) after 36 holes to finish in a tie for eighth place, while teammates Jas Fuhrer and Roy Anderson were just one shot off his pace. Sculti posted a round of 77 on Monday, while Fuhrer and Anderson both trimmed two strokes off their cards from Sunday to turn in rounds of 74. Chris Magliocco gave the Diplomats a tight group of finishers with a score of 78 on Monday for a two-round total of 151 (+9). Michael Gallagher certainly rallied on day two as he turned in the low score of the day for F&M (73), a score that was a 10-stroke improvement from his opening round.
Franklin & Marshall continued to show well on the par-5 holes as the Diplomats finished with a team score of six-under, six strokes better than the rest of the teams. They also carded 108 pars and 19 birdies, ranking second and third, respectively, amongst the competing teams.
Magliocco and Sculti were three and two-under, respectively, on the par-5 holes to lead the tournament while Fuhrer and Anderson also finished under par on those holes for the weekend. Fuhrer was just one shot off the pace of the best par-3 score at one-over. Magliocco additionally led the Diplomats with six birdies over the two rounds while every Diplomat carded at least three birdies during the event.
Men's golf will return to action this coming weekend as it takes part in the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Classic hosted by McDaniel this Saturday and Sunday. That 36-hole event will be held at The Bridges Golf Club.
