HERSHEY, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall's men's golf team is in second place, just three strokes off the lead, after day one of the Centennial Conference Championships. The Diplomats posted an opening round team score of 314 (+30) after 18 holes of the two round tournament. Gettysburg is holding the team lead at +27 heading into the final round on Sunday.
Jas Fuhrer posted the low round for the Diplomats at four-over (75). He sits in second place in the individual standings, just four shots off the pace of Gettysburg's Quinn Greene who fired an even round on the par-71 course. Fuhrer was just one of nine players in the field with two birdies, picking up strokes throughout the back nine. His 12 pars were second in the field.
Dominic Sculti and Jordan Hubal are tied for seventh overall heading into day two at eight-over (79). Sculti's round was highlighted by his par-5 play where he was one-under, the second-best score of the day on those holes. Hubal was also one-under on the par-5s and just one-over in the par-3s to finish with the second-best scoring round on those holes. Hubal is one of just three golfers with three birdies, as he was one-under after the front nine.
Jared Berlin (+9) and Michael Gallagher (+10) are 13th and 14th, respectively, after the opening round. Berlin, the 2019 CC Rookie of the Year, posted 10 pars throughout his round. Gallagher also carded two birdies to go along with 10 pars of his own.
As a team, Franklin & Marshall's combined team of all five players is leading the tournament in scoring on par-3s (+13), par-4s (+28), and par-5s (E). The Diplomats also turned in a tournament-best 47 pars to go along with six birdies on the round.
The second and final round of the Centennial Conference Championship will get underway at 12 p.m. noon at Hershey Country Club east. McDaniel, Muhlenberg, and Ursinus will all tie off at 12 p.m. while players from Franklin & Marshall, Gettysburg, and Dickinson will arrive to the first tee starting at 12:45 p.m. Live scoring will once again be provided by the Centennial Conference throughout Sunday's action.
