ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall men's golf sits in second place at the McDaniel Spring Invitational, as all five golfers shot within three strokes of each other for a well-rounded effort during the opening round. The Diplomats shot +28 in tough conditions at The Bridges Golf Club, currently seven strokes behind host McDaniel.
Michael Gallagher led the Diplomats with a 78 (+6) effort on the par-72 course, currently tied for seventh in the 90 player field and five shots off the lead. Chris Dorey and Jas Fuhrer are just one stroke off Gallagher's team-best pace, shooting 79's during Saturday's round and tying for 11th overall.
Shane Lawler ended round one with an 80 (+8) to keep the Diplomats in contention. Roy Anderson finished just outside the top-25 with an 81 (+9) on opening day.
McDaniel's Ryan McGarry led the field with a one-over-par 73, followed immediately in the standings by three other Centennial Conference competitors.
F&M will look to leadfrog the host Green Terror on day two, with opening tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m.
