F&M In Second After First Day Of Garden State Collegiate Classic

FLANDERS, N.J. -- Franklin & Marshall men's golf sits in second place after a first round 299 at the Garden State Collegiate Classic, hosted by Drew at the Flanders Valley Golf Course.

The Diplomats sit ten shots back of Stevens Institute of Technology on the leaderboard, who shot +1 as a team. SIT ended the day with three golfers shooting par or better, as Miles Philion led the pack with a two-under 70.

The top four Diplomats are included in the team scoring, as Shane Lawler, Mike Gallagher, Jas Fuhrer, and Matt Durnan all finished five-over or better on the afternoon.

Lawler knocked in a pair of birdies on 11 and 15 to finish with an opening round 73 to lead F&M and finish in a tie for seventh on the course, three shots behind the leader.

Mike Gallagher and Jas Fuhrer followed in succession, with Gallagher using three birdies on the back end of the course to finish with a 74 and Fuhrer ending with a 75. Matt Durnan's birdies on 14 and 16 helped him to a 77 on the afternoon. Gallagher sits in ninth place after round one, while Fuhrer ended the afternoon in a tie for tenth.

Dominic Sculti just missed being included with a 78 (+6).

F&M gets an early start in the field, with all five Diplomats teeing off at the earliest tee times of the day on Sunday, between noon and 12:36 p.m.
