HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. -- Staring down elimination from the NCAA Championship, Franklin & Marshall men's golf got a trio of birdies on the final hole of the day to place the squad back above the cut and in 17th place after the second round of play on Wednesday. Jas Fuhrer, Roy Anderson, and Shane Lawler all carded three's on the par-4 ninth to finish with a 313 team score on the par-72, 6748 yard El Campeon course.
The No. 46 Diplomats are the lowest ranked team remaining in the tournament following the first two days at Mission Inn and Resort.
Shane Lawler impressed, especially on the back part of the course as the Diplomats started the day on the 10th hole. A birdie on the par-3 15 sent Lawler on his way to shooting one-under through his first eight holes of the day. Lawler sits in a tie for 26th on the individual leaderboard with his second round 74, for a two-day total of 149 - just eight shots behind the leader.
Roy Anderson had the other sub-80 round for the Diplomats, firing a 77 (+5) to land in a tie for 74th after two rounds. Anderson shot just one-over on the back nine to start the match, including a birdie on 15 to pair with the one on nine.
Michael Gallagher finished just two-over on the final nine holes to guide him to an 80. Jas Fuhrer and Dominic Sculti both ended with 82s on the day, placing them at +13 and +15 for the tournament.
F&M starts the third round bright and early on El Campeon again tomorrow morning, starting once again on the back nine beginning at 8:00 a.m.. Michael Gallagher starts first, followed by Dominic Sculti at 8:09, Jas Fuhrer at 8:18, Roy Anderson at 8:27, and Shane Lawler at 8:36.
