Flavio Hinostroza Sends Men's Squash to 5-4 Win vs. No. 19 Amherst

LANCASTER, Pa. – Flavio Hinostroza gave the Franklin & Marshall men's squash team a hard-fought 5-4 victory versus No. 19 Amherst on the strength of his five-game win at No. 5 on Saturday afternoon. Hinostroza's victory capped an overall huge comeback for the Diplomats who were trailing 4-1 before winning the final four matches on court.

Follwoing his first game win in extra points, Hinostroza found himself facing a deficit of his own as his opponent rallied for a 2-1 lead with back-to-back game victories. Facing numerous tied scores throughout the fourth game, the Diplomat eventually secured another 12-10 game before carrying all of that momentum to clinching the team victory during an 11-4 decisive game to close the thrilling afternoon. That win was one of two five-game victories on the afternoon for Franklin & Marshall as Noah Katzer took his match at No. 6 in equally thrilling fashion. Down 1-0, his comeback was highlighted by an extensive 20-18 third game before an eventual 11-8 win during the decisive game.

Outside of a pair of five-game victories, the Diplomats handled their business at the top of the lineup with Petr Nohel (No. 1), Jordan Sprecher (No. 2), and Kyle Broadhurst (No. 3) all sweeping their opponents in three games. Sprecher had the most convincing victory that included a pair an 11-2 middle game. The closest of those nine game victories in the top third of the ladder was an 11-8 opener at No. 3.

Men's squash will cap a busy weekend with its third straight home date as the No. 15 Diplomats battle No. 23 Middlebury on Sunday. That match will be an 11:30 a.m. start at the Mayser Squash Courts.
