WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Franklin & Marshall men's golf team started its spring season with a third-place finish at the McDaniel Spring Invitational. Originally scheduled to be a 36-hole event over two days, rain canceled Saturday's round and the Diplomats shot 304 as a team during the 18-hole event on Sunday.
Fellow Centennial Conference foes Gettysburg and Dickinson tied at 299 for the tournament lead, with the Bullets claiming the tiebreak to secure the team trophy.
Senior captain Jas Fuhrer led Franklin & Marshall in scoring, firing a two-over (74) to begin his spring with a tie for fourth in the individual standings. The Diplomats put three players in the top 10 of the overall individual standings as Dylan Gallagher (75) and Jack Cooley (76) were seventh and ninth, respectively. Matt Durnan (79) and Shane Lawler (80) rounded out the team's performances on Sunday.
Men's golf returns to action in one week's time when the Diplomats travel to the Hershey Country Club for the Hershey Cup which will be hosted by Rochester. That 36-hole event will run from Sunday, April 2 throughout Monday, April 3.
