Box Score SALEM, Va. – The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (1-8) fell in its final game at the Roanoke Round-Robin to Brockport (1-3), 8-4, Sunday morning. The Golden Eagles plated seven runs in the final three innings to slip past the Diplomats in the contest.
Down 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth, first baseman Jakob Hoffman powered a solo shot over the center field fence to tie the game. The blast was Hoffman's tenth of his career, moving him into a tie of sixth-most in the F&M record books.
Brockport once again claimed the lead in the top of seventh, scoring three runs to take a 4-1 advantage in the game. F&M got a run back in the bottom half of the frame as center fielder Spencer Berson hit a leadoff triple to right field and was brought home on a single from shortstop Bobby Falese.
The Golden Eagles pieced together three hits to score two runs in top of the eighth and jumped out to a 6-2 lead. F&M didn't go away as third baseman Tommy Denlinger hit a leadoff single and scored on a RBI triple from AJ Desautels in the next at-bat. With two outs in the inning, Falese brought Desautels home for his second RBI of the day on a single to make it a 6-4 game.
Brockport scored two more runs in the top of the ninth and kept the Diplomats off the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame to come away with the victory.
Franklin & Marshall had an opportunity to add runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with Falese, Hoffman, and Pat Elliott hitting three-consecutive singles to load the bases with two outs. However, Brockport managed to get the crucial third out – working its way out of the jam without giving up a run.
Denlinger led the game with four hits, while Falese followed with three in the contest. Elliott and Hoffman ended the day with two hits apiece.
Bijan Anvar (0-1) was the losing pitcher in the game, striking out four batters in 2.1 innings of relief. Dan Galef started on the mound, striking out three and allowing no earned runs in four innings of work.
Franklin & Marshall hosts its home opener at Caplan Field Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. when the Diplomats welcome York (Pa.).
