Box Score 2 BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall softball team (4-15, 0-5 CC) fell in both games of its non-conference doubleheader at Moravian (17-6, 3-1 Landmark) Thursday afternoon. The Diplomats battled in both games, but the Greyhounds slipped by F&M 2-0 in game one and 5-4 in game two.
Game 1: Moravian 2, Franklin & Marshall 0
Solid pitching from Moravian and a pair of runs in the second and third innings downed the Diplomats as F&M's offense was held in check in game one.
The Diplomats only tallied three hits in the contest as Devon Witt recorded two in game one.
Ainsley McClure (2-4) pitched well, but was hit with the loss – striking out six in a complete game effort.
Game 2: Moravian 5, Franklin & Marshall 4
F&M battled in the top of the seventh to tie the game up at 4-all, but Moravian worked its way around the bases in the bottom of the frame to walk-off the Diplomats in game two.
Franklin & Marshall jumped out to an early lead in the top of the second as Francesca Testa singled to lead off the inning. A sacrifice bunt from Claire Sullivan moved Testa all the way over to third base, setting up the shortstop to score on a wild pitch – giving F&M a 1-0 advantage. Alexa Klepper followed with an infield single and immediately stole second. Kaitlin Herrick singled into center field to score Klepper from second. Herrick then advanced to second on a groundout – setting herself up to score on a single from Jensen Macaulay to push the lead to 3-0.
Moravian plated a run in both the third and fourth inning, before scoring two and taking a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth.
With their backs against the wall in the top of the seventh, the Diplomats battled back by getting Klepper on base with a lead-off single. After Hannah Matusiak singled to right field, an error on Moravian's third baseman on the following at-bat allowed Klepper to race around the bases to score the tying run.
Testa led the Diplomats on offense with three hits, followed by Klepper with two. Herrick and Macaulay each tallied an RBI in game two.
Aliza Sheflin (2-8) was the losing pitcher in the contest, striking out two in five innings in the circle.
Due to inclement weather in the forecast on Saturday, the doubleheader between Franklin & Marshall and McDaniel is pushed back to Sunday. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
