Box Score 2 RADNOR, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall softball team (6-19, 1-8 CC) split its non-conference doubleheader at Cabrini (18-11, 4-3 Atlantic East) Thursday afternoon. The Cavaliers shutout the Diplomats, 4-0, in game one before F&M blanked Cabrini, 5-0, in game two.
Game 1: Cabrini 4, Franklin & Marshall 0
The Cavaliers used a three-run third inning to jump out in front of the Diplomats in game one. Franklin & Marshall's offense struggled to get runners on base as the visitors were held to just three hits.
Jaden Spigner had a solid game at the plate, batting two-for-two in the contest. Maddy Yeingst recorded the Diplomats' only other hit in the game as she doubled in the seventh inning.
Kayla Kilmer (0-5) was the losing pitcher in game one – striking out four and allowing three earned runs in a complete game effort.
Game 2: Franklin & Marshall 5, Cabrini 0
The teams played a tight game throughout the first five innings, but the Diplomats broke open the lead by scoring a pair of runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to earn a split in the doubleheader.
Scoreless in the top of the third inning, Yeingst led off the frame with a single into center field. A sacrifice bunt from Sami LaRosa put Yeingst in scoring position as the junior recorded the first run of the game on an RBI-double from Devon Witt.
Later in the game, Kaitlin Herrick doubled to lead off the top of the sixth. After Francesca Testa walked, Alexa Klepper doubled to right center field to score both Herrick and Testa – giving the Diplomats a 3-0 advantage.
Franklin & Marshall continued the offensive attack in the top of the seventh as LaRosa led off the inning with a walk. A groundout, followed by a wild pitch allowed the senior to reach third. The next batter, Kate Clement, roped a double into center field to score LaRosa and widen the F&M lead to four runs. Clement later came around to score on an infield error to tally the Diplomats' fifth run of the contest.
Herrick and Klepper led the offense with two hits each. Klepper also recorded a game-high two RBI in the win.
Ainsley McClure (4-6) was a force in the circle as she struck out seven, while allowing just three hits in a complete game showing.
Franklin & Marshall jumps back into Centennial Conference (CC) action Saturday with a doubleheader at Haverford. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
