ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's golf team opened its fall season with three individuals competing at McDaniel's Tournament which was held at The Bridges Golf Club. Centennial Conference foes Dickinson, Gettysburg, McDaniel, and Ursinus joined the Diplomats alongside Millersville and Susquehanna at the event.
Reilly Melvin led the team's efforts as she fired a season-opening round of 83 to finish in a tie for sixth in the individual standings. Melvin closed with a 40 on the back-nine, including a birdie on the 17th hole, to begin her sophomore season.
Juniors Janire Vela and Claire Hill also got on the links for the first competition of the year. Vela finished in 14th overall after turning in a score of 90. Three pars and a birdie on the par-5 15th hole highlighted her day. Hill finished in 26th place at the tournament with a season-opening round of 103.
Women's golf continues its fall slate this coming Sunday when the Diplomats host their home fall invitational at Overlook Golf Course on Sunday, September 17 starting at 12 p.m. noon.
