WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's golf team, ranked No. 23 in the latest Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll, is sitting in fourth place after day one of the Northeast Elite Tournament after firing an opening round 288 (+4). The Diplomats trail first-place Trinity (Conn.) by just six strokes heading into Sunday's second and final round at the Williamsport Country Club.
Roy Anderson turned in the low round on Saturday for the Diplomats as he carded a one-under 70 with the help of two eagles. Both of those eagles came on par-5s, while he closed his round with back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17 before one final eagle on 18. That score has him in a tie for eighth in the individual standings as one of 12 players who finished under par during the opening round.
Max Silverman turned in an even par 71 and is lurking just outside of the top 10. His day featured three birdies, including back-to-back holes under par to close out his round. Shane Lawler (+2), Oliver Clark (+3), and Quishi He (+4) all started their weekend with strong scores. Lawler made the turn at one-under with three birdies over the first nine holes. Clark had three birdies throughout his round, with He going under par on his final hole of the afternoon.
Day two of the Northeast Elite is set for Sunday with the Diplomats teeing off within the first five groups. He will be the first player off the tee box at 9:30 a.m. while Lawler will be the final F&M player to get his round underway at 10:06 a.m.
