FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team sent two individuals to the round of 32 singles on the opening day of the ITA Southeast Regional Championship held at Mary Washington. Under the new four-day format, only round of 64 singles matches were contested on Thursday afternoon. The remaining draws get underway Friday alongside the championship singles players who will return to action.
Marco Romano earned the No. 5 seed for the Diplomats and proved worthy of that spot in the draw early as he defeated Washington and Lee's Todd Cannaliato in straight sets by consecutive 6-2 scores. He will be joined in the round of 32 by teammate Nate Arnold who claimed back-to-back 6-3 sets during his opening round victory versus Shenandoah's Lucas Beasley. Carlos Lana and Samuel Donnelly were also drawn into the championship singles bracket. Despite tough open round matches, their singles tournament will continue in the consolation bracket on Friday.
Compete results and upcoming matches for the Diplomats are listed below. Action at ITA Southeast Regional Championship will resume Friday at 8 a.m. with championship doubles. The Diplomats have two doubles teams who are slated for action in the championship draw along with multiple entrants in both the blue singles and doubles.
