10/2/2026 10:06:00 PM

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team saw the rest of its traveling squad get into action on Friday at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship. The Diplomats had a number of players compete in the championship draws, while Nate Arnold and Samuel Donnelly advanced to the semifinals of the Blue I doubles draw.

After winning their opening round matches on Thursday in championship singles, Marco Romano and Nate Arnold both fell in round of 32 action to conclude their weekend of singles play. However, the Diplomats did find success in the consolation draw as Carlos Lana and Samuel Donnelly both bounced back with victories and will continue into Saturday's action. Other singles matches saw Daniil Lunev advance to the quarterfinals in the Blue I singles draw via a 10-point tiebreak over Mary Washington before falling to Swarthmore in the quarterfinals.

Championship doubles got underway on Friday and both of the F&M pairings in the main draw won their opening matches. Marco Romano and Theo Oeltermann were 8-5 winners over Batten, with Ian Alonso and Carlos Lana claiming an 8-3 win versus Shenandoah. However, both pairings were stopped against seeded opponents during the round of 32.

The highlight of the day was Arnold and Donnelly advancing to the semifinals of Blue I doubles. That duo started the tournament with an 8-5 victory over their Centennial Conference foes from Washington College and then doubled up Salisbury, 8-4, during the quarterfinal round. They will have another conference matchup waiting for them against Swarthmore when they return to the courts for semifinal action at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
