FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Franklin & Marshall women's tennis team was one of seven squads who sent multiple players to the singles round of 32 at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Friday afternoon. Kakie Colclough and Judy Yang both earned victories on the first day of the newly formatted tournament.
Colclough was a straight-set winner as she dispatched Randolph's Fleur Gaalman in back-to-back 6-3 sets. Yang dropped her opening set at her first ITA Championship, but forced a tiebreak by winning a tiebreak during the second set. The first-year would officially punch her ticket to the next round with a 10-8 tiebreak third. Chloe Monachelli also debuted in the championship draw of singles and fell to her opponent from Johns Hopkins in the opening round.
Doubles play (where the Diplomats have three teams in the championship draw) and the blue singles action will get underway Saturday when the singles championships resumes.
