Diplomats Finish Spring Break Trip

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team went 4-3 during its seven match Spring Break trip this past week in Florida. Will MacArthur, Doug Silverstein and Tommy Weibye each won four singles matches during the trip and Silverstein teamed with Weibye to win five doubles competitions.

The Diplomats edged Drew University, 5-4, in their first meet of the week. MacArthur, Silverstein, Weibye and Eric Rouff all earned wins in singles action. Ross Silverberg and MacArthur teamed to beat Raul Smego and Elliot Smego in doubles.

F&M blanked Lawrence University 9-0 in its second meet. Silverberg, MacArthur, Weibye, Rouff, Peter Bookman and Tim Belford all won their singles matches. Silverberg and MacArthur, Tunner and Silverstein and Bookman and Weibye took all three doubles competitions.

The Diplomats dropped a 5-2 decision to McMurry. Weibye won F&M's only singles competition with a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Adam Ewing. Weibye later teamed Silverstein to knock off Chris Breaux and Daniel Olivares in doubles.

College of Coastal Georgia handed the Diplomats a 7-2 loss. Silverberg and MacArthur defeated Laurenz Schraepen and Jaime Childree 8-3 in doubles action and Silverstein and Weibye beat Malhar Mali and James Carr 8-3.

F&M shutout Hamilton 8-0 for its third win of the week. Silverburg, MacArthur, Silverstein, Weibye, Rouff and James Tunner swept the singles competition.  The only close matches in singles were Rouff's 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(5) win over Mike Moreno and Tunner's 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory against Eric Maertin. Silverstein and Weibye along with Tunner and Salierno won in doubles competition.

Berry College handed the Diplomats a 7-2 loss with six wins in singles. Silverstein and Weibye defeated Elliot Echols and Jorg Bergmann 8-2 in the second doubles position. Salierno and Tunner beat Steven Weeks and Ben Ortman 8-4 in No. 3 doubles.

The Diplomats ended their trip with a 7-2 win over University of Indianapolis. Silverberg and MacArthur beat Christian Nikou and Pete Wilson 8-5 in the first doubles before Silverstein and Weibye knocked off Trevor Cox and Caleb Fellers 8-2. Silverberg, MacArthur, Silverstein, Weibye and Tunner all won their singles matches.
