LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall picked up a 6-3 victory over Washington College in Centennial Conference (CC) men's tennis match Sunday afternoon in Lancaster. The Diplomats, who entered the match ranked 13th in the Atlantic South, improved to 7-5, 3-2 CC, while the Shoremen, who entered the match ranked 12th, fell to 7-5, 4-2 CC.
The Diplomats took a 2-1 lead after doubles play as Ross Silverberg and William MacArthur downed Marc Cywinski and Nicolas Campisi 8-1, at No. 1. Tommy Weibye and Doug Silverstein edged Kevin Papen and Aaron Ellison 9-8(3), at No. 2. The Shoremen took the third doubles match when Adam Cranford and John Menzione picked up an 8-4 victory over Paul Salierno and Samuel Stone.
In singles, Silverberg beat Cranford, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1, MacArthur out-dueled Papen, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2, Weibye beat Cywinski, 6-0, 6-1, and Eric Rouff downed Joel Novick 6-4, 6-1, at No. 5 to account for the Diplomats' four wins. The Shoremen won at No. 4, when Ellison defeated Silverstein, 7-5, 6-4, and at No. 6, as Menzione took down Peter Bookman, 7-5, 6-3.
F&M returns to court on Wednesday when the Diplomats host Muhlenberg at 4:00 p.m.
