SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall knocked off Swarthmore 5-2 in the Centennial Conference semifinals Saturday. The Diplomats will make the school's first-ever trip to the CC finals slated for Sunday against perennial power Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
The Diplomats have two Middle Atlantic titles in 1963 and 1972.
Ross Silverberg won No. 1 singles for the Diplomats with a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Stephen Youngblood.
William MacArthur followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Max Kaye to give F&M a 2-0 lead.
Tommy Weibye matched MacArthur in the No. 3 singles with an identical 6-2, 6-1 victory against Zak Kelm.
MacArthur and Silverberg teamed to defeat Youngblood and Kelm, 8-4, in No. 1 doubles and
Doug Silverstein and Weibye combined for an 8-6 win over Kaye and Maxwell Bressman.
Silverstein and
James Tunner did not finish their singles competition since the match was already won. Swarthmore won No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles.
