HAVERFORD, Pa. – No. 26 Franklin & Marshall dropped a 5-4 Centennial Conference (CC) match to Haverford on Saturday afternoon. The Fords (9-5, 5-2 CC) picked up two doubles wins over the Diplomats (5-7, 4-2 CC) and each side recorded three singles victories in the 5-4 decision.
Haverford notched wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles spots, which proved to be a key factor in deciding the close match. F&M recorded its lone win in doubles at the No. 2 position as Tommy Weibye teamed up with Nolan Bacchieri to take down Matthew Cebui and Matt Romei 9-8 (10-8).
In singles action, F&M and Haverford split the six matches, with the Diplomats securing wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4. William MacArthur (No. 3) and Bacchieri (No. 4) each notched straight set wins for F&M, while Weibye needed three sets to claim his victory at the No. 2 spot. MacArthur defeated Matt Romei 6-3, 6-4, Bacchieri picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win against Andy Dougherty, and Weibye tallied a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 triumph over Natty Sergay.
The Diplomats return to the court on Tuesday at Gettysburg in CC action. Match time is set for 4:00 pm.
