GETTYSBURG, Pa. – No. 26 Franklin & Marshall defeated Gettysburg 8-1 in a key Centennial Conference (CC) men's tennis showdown on Tuesday. The Diplomats (6-7, 5-2 CC) swept the doubles action, and lost just one singles match to claim the convincing victory over the Bullets (6-8, 2-6 CC).
The doubles No. 1 team of Tommy Weibye and Nolan Bacchieri took down Terry Keegan and Chris Curran 8-3. William MacArthur and Alec Tunner defeated Johnny Nelson and Mike McLaughlin 9-7 at the No. 2 position, while the duo of Peter Bookman and Parint Lertdumrikarn notched an 8-5 win over Sebastian Rodriguez and Mike Pratt at No. 3.
In singles action, Gettysburg picked up its lone point at the No. 6 spot, while F&M notched victories in the first five singles positions. No. 1 Ross Silverberg and No. 2 Weibye both cruised to 6-2, 6-3 victories. Silverberg recorded his win over Curran, while Weibye defeated McLaughlin. MacArthur downed Keegan at the No. 3 position 6-0, 7-5, while Bacchieri eased past Rodriguez 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot. At No. 5, Eric Rouff needed three sets but came away with a win against John Cronin, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5.
The Diplomats return to CC action on Thursday when F&M travels to Muhlenberg. Match time is set for 5:00 pm.
