YORK, Pa. – No. 26 Franklin & Marshall fell to No. 27 Swarthmore 5-2 in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference (CC) Tournament on Saturday. The second-seeded Diplomats end their season at 8-8, 7-2 CC with the loss, while the third-seeded Garnet (14-9, 7-2 CC) advance to tomorrow's title match against the winner of top-seeded Johns Hopkins and fifth-seeded Haverford.
Swarthmore took a 2-1 advantage after doubles play, getting wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. F&M picked up its doubles point at the No. 1 position as Ross Silverberg and William MacArthur edged Maxwell Bressmen and Max Kaye 9-8 (7-3). At No. 2, Tommy Weibye and Nolan Bacchieri fell just short against Zak Kelm and Christian Carcione by a score of 9-7.
In singles play, Swarthmore notched straight set victories at the No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5 positions to claim the victory. Silverberg recorded the lone win at the No. 1 spot for the Diplomats, taking down Kelm 6-3, 6-2.
Swarthmore will meet the Johns Hopkins/Haverford winner tomorrow at 3:00 pm at Johns Hopkins.
