LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall defeated No. 21 Swarthmore College 5-4 Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) men's tennis action. The Diplomats (5-6, 4-1 CC) took two of the three doubles points from the Garnet (9-8, 3-2 CC), while the two sides both captured wins at three singles spots.
In doubles, the No. 1 team of Ross Silverberg and William MacArthur took down Zak Kelm and Maxwell Bressmen 8-4, while the No. 2 team of Tommy Weibye and Nolan Bacchieri notched a victory against Max Kaye and Christian Carcione 8-5.
The Diplomats secured wins at the top two spots in singles action, with Silverberg picking up a win over Kelm at No. 1 7-6 (7-2), 6-4, and No. 2 Weibye taking down Anthony Collard 6-3, 7-5. The other F&M singles victory came from No. 4 Bacchieri, who overcame a first-set defeat to claim a three-set win over Kaye 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to seal the F&M victory.
F&M returns to the court on Saturday when the Diplomats travel to Haverford for a CC match-up. Match time is set for 12:00 pm.
