F&M Topples No. 26 Garnet

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall tennis team downed No. 26 Swarthmore 6-3 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The Diplomats improved to 7-7, 4-1 CC while the Garnet fell to 7-7, 4-1 CC.

Ross Silverberg, ranked No. 12 in the region, kicked off play with a win over Anthony Collard, No. 7 in the region, in straight sets at 6-3, 6-4 from the No. 1 position. William MacArthur and Tommy Weibye followed at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively, with straight set wins for F&M.

Nolan Bacchieri was solid at the No. 5 spot, taking down Irving Stone of the Garnet 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles competition, Silverberg and Weibye teamed up at No. 2 for an 8-6 victory over Malik Mubeen and Collard of Swarthmore. Doug Kaplan and Samuel Stone wrapped up doubles action with an 8-4 win at No. 3.

The Diplomats return to the court tomorrow to face off against Washington and Lee at 12:00 p.m.
