Diplomats Take Down Fords

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team defeated Haverford 6-3 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The Diplomats (ranked No. 9 in the Atlantic South region) improved to 8-8, 5-1 CC while the Fords (ranked No. 8 in the Atlantic South) fell to 7-6, 5-2 CC.

In a singles matchup of two regionally ranked players, Ross Silverberg (No. 12) outlasted  Haverford's Danny Himelstein (No. 10) 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. With the victory, Silverberg moved into sole possession of second place for the most wins in school history.

Silverberg has accumulated a 63-21 record over the course of four years and is now only three wins shy of tying Sherif Abdel-Misih '97 for first place.

MacArthur also earned a victory on the day with a 6-2, 6-3 decision at the No. 2 spot. Doug Kaplan defeated the Fords' Andy Dougherty 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4, followed by Nolan Bacchieri at No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-2 win.

F&M took two out of the three double's contests on the afternoon. Silverberg teamed up with Tommy Weibye to down Matt Romei and Matthew Cebul 9-7 at No. 2. Kaplan and Samuel Stone closed out play with a 9-8 (7-2) victory at No. 3.

The Diplomats return to competition on Wednesday to face off against Gettysburg at 4:00 p.m.
