F&M Takes Two in Home Opener

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team defeated Centennial Conference (CC) opponent McDaniel 8-1, before dropping Salisbury by another 8-1 score in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon in Lancaster. The Diplomats have won four-straight matches and improved to 6-6 (3-0 CC) on the season. The Green Terror fell to 2-9, 0-4 CC with the loss while the Sea Gulls stumbled to 10-7.

Ross Silverberg cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the No. 1 spot followed by Alec Tunner at No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-4 win. Kazuhiro Tomioka dropped only two games in his 6-0, 6-2 decision over Ryan Salomon of McDaniel at No. 4. Geoffrey Brennan (6-1, 6-2) and Peter Bookman (6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6)) closed out singles competition with wins at No. 4 and No. 5 respectively.

F&M swept the Green Terror in doubles action with all three pairings picking up a victory. William MacArthur and Nolan Bacchieri (No. 1) got things started with an 8-4 decision, followed by Silverberg and Tommy Weibye (No. 2) with an 8-1 win before Samuel Stone and Doug Kaplan (No. 3) closed out play with an 8-2 victory.

Against Salisbury the Diplomats went a perfect six-for-six in singles competition. Kaplan dominated at the No. 4 position with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Adam Goldberger of the Sea Eagles. After falling in his first game (4-6), Weibye cruised to a victory with wins in his final two games (6-1, 6-2) at No. 3.

Silverberg and Weibye teamed up in doubles action for an 8-5 victory, followed by Kaplan and Stone at No. 3 with an 8-4 win.

F&M returns to the court on Wednesday to face off against No. 8 Johns Hopkins in CC action. The competition is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
