SALISBURY, Md. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team began its spring season by defeating Salisbury 5-4 on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action. The win propelled the Diplomats to 1-0, while the Sea Gulls fell to 0-1.
In singles competition, Nolan Bacchieri defeated Shane Gunther 7-6, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4. Freshmen Joshua Kane and Benjamin Stern each earned victories in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. Kane crushed Matthew McGaffney 6-0, 6-0, while Stern downed Shanon Gunther 6-3, 6-2.
Tommy Weibye and Doug Kaplan teamed up in the No. 2 doubles spot to down the Gunther brothers of Salisbury 8-0, while Kane and Parint Lertdumrikam also came out victorious at No. 3 with a 9-7 win for the Diplomats.
F&M returns to the court Monday, March 10, when the Diplomats begin their spring break trip in Orlando against Staten Island at 8:00 a.m.
