LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team began Centennial Conference (CC) play with a 9-0 rout of Muhlenberg on Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats improved to 3-2, 1-0 CC, while the Mules fell to 1-2, 0-1 CC.
In singles, William MacArthur won in straight sets in the No. 1 position by a score of 6-1, 6-4, while Doug Kaplan followed with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the No. 2 spot. In the third position, Nolan Bacchieri defeated Ben Berkowitz 6-0, 6-2, while Joshua Kane won at the No. 4 spot 6-1, 6-2.
At No. 5 singles, Benjamin Stern recorded another win for the Diplomats with a 6-1 6-1 victory. Kazuhiro Tomioka finished singles for the day for F&M with a 6-0, 6-3 victory in the No. 6 spot.
In doubles action, the Diplomats continued their winning ways as MacArthur and Bacchieri defeated Muhlenberg's Jason Teitelbaum and Dan Lakhman 8-3 at the No. 1 position before Kaplan and Tommy Weibye won at No. 2 by a score of 8-3. Kane and Tomioka completed doubles for F&M with an 8-5 victory at No. 3.
The Diplomats return to the court tomorrow when F&M travels to Swarthmore, Pa. to battle Kalamazoo in non-conference action. The match is set to begin 2:00 p.m.
