SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team fell narrowly to Kalamazoo in non-conference action on Sunday evening by a score of 5-4. The Diplomats fell to 3-3, while Kalamazoo improved to 4-3.
In No. 1 singles, William MacArthur fought hard, but was defeated by Branden Metzlier 6-4, 6-4, while Doug Kaplan knocked off the Hornets' Peter Rothstein 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 2 position. Joshua Kane earned another victory for F&M with a 6-2, 6-1 decision at the No. 4 spot.
At No. 5 singles, Benjamin Stern fell to Kalamazoo's David DeSimone 6-4, 6-4, while the Diplomats' Kazuhiro Tomioka battled Spencer Navarre but fell 6-4, 7-5 at the No. 6 spot.
In doubles action, a team of MacArthur and Nolan Bacchieri defeated Rothstein and Robert Hudson 8-5 at the No. 1 position, while Kaplan and Tommy Weibye won 9-8 (7-4) at No. 2 doubles.
F&M returns to action on Saturday when the Diplomats welcome Washington to the Brooks Tennis Center for a 1:00 p.m. match.
