LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team defeated Washington 9-0 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The win improved the No. 12 regionally-ranked (Atlantic South) Diplomats to 5-3, 2-0 CC, while the Shoremen fell to 4-4, 1-1 CC.
In singles, William MacArthur defeated Vishnu Rajes 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 1 position, while Tommy Weibye downed Marc Cywinski 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot. Doug Kaplan won 6-1, 6-3 from the No. 3 position and Joshua Kane blanked Joel Novick 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.
Benjamin Stern was victorious at No. 5 singles with an 8-2 victory, while Kazuhiro Tomioka defeated Zachary Novick 9-8 (8-6) from the No. 6 spot.
In doubles, MacArthur and Nolan Bacchieri won 8-5 from the No. 1 spot and Kaplan and Weibye combined at the No. 2 position for the dominant 8-1 victory. Tomioka and Kane finished off doubles action with an 8-4 win at No 3.
The Diplomats return to action tomorrow when F&M faces off against Christopher Newport (ranked No. 8 in the Atlantic South Region). Originally scheduled to take place at Brooks Tennis Center, the match will now be played at Spooky Nook Sports in Manheim, starting at 8:00 a.m.
