ORLANDO, Fla. – The Franklin & Marshall women's tennis team began its Florida spring break trip with 1-2 record. The Diplomats (2-2) fell to No. 21 Marian (Ind.) by a 6-3 score on Sunday before splitting a double header on Monday with a dominant 9-0 victory over Illinois Wesleyan followed by a 9-0 loss to No. 29 Wingate. 

F&M battled No. 21 Marian throughout with Caitlin Rummelsburg taking a hard-fought 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 decision at No. 1, while Emily Gruenberg earned the other singles victory in a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 contest at No. 4. 

The doubles team of Rummelsburg and Anya Sahaydachny earned the Diplomats other win on the afternoon with an 8-4 score, while Gruenberg and Rachel Weinstein were narrowly edged out at No. 3 with a 9-8 (7-1) defeat. 

Against Illinois Wesleyan on Monday, F&M was in control throughout, sweeping each singles match in two sets and dominating all three doubles matches. Tara Buchney (No. 5) and Allysan Breece (No. 6) both cruised in their singles competitions with 6-0, 6-0 sweeps, while teams of Megan FitzMaurice and Dana Sleeper (No. 2) as well as Gruenberg and Weinstein (No. 3) each earned 8-0 wins in doubles action. 

The Diplomats struggled against No. 29 Wingate later in the day and were unable to pick up a set throughout the contest. 

F&M continues its spring break trip with a match against Wesleyan (Conn.) tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. before wrapping up action on Thursday with an 8:00 a.m. showdown with Minn. St. Mankato.
