LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team was narrowly defeated by Haverford by a score of 5-4 on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The Diplomats' record now sits at 8-6, 4-3 CC, while the Fords improved to 10-4, 6-1 CC.
The day started with doubles action and a victory for the No. 1 doubles combination of William MacArthur and Nolan Bacchieri who won 8-3, followed by another victory from the No. 2 doubles team of Doug Kaplan and Kazuhiro Tomioka at 8-5. Benjamin Stern and Parint Lertdumrikam fought hard for F&M at No. 3 doubles, but eventually fell 8-6.
MacArthur picked up another victory at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) triumph over Haverford's Luis Acaba. No. 2 singles player Kaplan followed with another hard-fought victory over the Fords' Zack Mason at 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).
At the No. 3 position, Bacchieri battled Haverford's Matt Romei, but fell 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, before Jacob Youse downed Stern 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot. Andy Dougherty defeated F&M's Tomioka 7-6 (8-6), 6-0 at No. 5, and Robert Homan downed Lertdumrikam 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
The Diplomats return to action Tuesday on Tuesday when F&M travels to take on Gettysburg at 4:00 p.m.
