BALTIMORE, Md. – Despite a 9-0 defeat at the hands of No. 5 Johns Hopkins, the Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team fought hard throughout the lineup on Tuesday afternoon in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The Diplomats (ranked No. 12 in the Atlantic South Region) fell to 8-4, 4-1 CC, while the Blue Jays improved to 9-4, 4-0 CC.
At No. 1 singles, William MacArthur was downed by Michael Buxbaum in a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 match, while No. 2 Doug Kaplan gave all John Hopkin's Ben Hwang he could handle, but was edged out 6-4 6-4.
At the No. 3 position, F&M's Nolan Bacchieri fell 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 in a tough matchup, while Joshua Kane went down 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
In doubles play, MacArthur and Bacchieri battled, but were defeated by a Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh combination 8-4 before Parint Lertdumrikam and Benjamin Stern dropped an 8-5 decision at the No. 3 double spot.
The Diplomats return to the court Saturday when F&M travels to take on Swarthmore at 1:00 p.m.
