NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Christopher Newport downed Franklin & Marshall 7-2 in non-conference men's tennis action. The Diplomats fell to 0-1, while the Captains improved to 2-1.
In the No. 2 singles spot, freshman Jack Rothman defeated Chiraag Shetty 6-1, 6-4, while F&M's Doug Kaplan battled David Reed, but eventually fell 6-3, 6-7 (7-1), 6-3.
Doug Kaplan and Rothman teamed up in the No. 1 doubles position to down Justin Cerny and Reed 8-4, while Will Samuels and Vasant Rajamanickam fell in a hard-fought match to Steven Boslet and Shetty 8-3.
The Diplomats return to action tomorrow when F&M takes on Va. Wesleyan at the Princess Anne Country Club in Virginia Beach at 2:00 p.m.
