SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall was downed by Swarthmore 5-0 in the Centennial Conference (CC) Men's Tennis Semifinal match on Saturday afternoon. The match was played to decision as the Diplomats' season came to a close with an 8-9 mark, while the Garnet (13-5) advanced to tomorrow's championship match against Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
The day started with doubles action, as Mark Fallati and Ari Cepelewicz downed Nolan Bacchieri and Vasant Rajamanickam 8-4 in the No. 1 position, while Doug Kaplan and Will Samuels fell 8-3 from the No. 2 spot and Jack Rothman and Hamza Pataudi were downed 8-1 at No. 3.
Singles play went largely unfinished with the match being played to decision. Kaplan and John Larkin were battling at the No. 1 spot as Larkin was ahead 6-4, 0-3, while Rothman's match at No. 3 was at 4-6, 5-1 in favor of Rothman before it was stopped.
