NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Franklin & Marshall's men's tennis team opened its season on Saturday afternoon, falling 8-1 in a non-conference matchup with Christopher Newport. The loss dropped the Diplomats to 0-1 while the No. 37 Captains improved to 2-1 with the victory.
By the Numbers
Isaac Salas made quick work at No. 4 singles, winning 6-1, 6-2. Doug Kaplan opened his senior campaign by winning the first set at No. 1 singles 6-1, eventually falling 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-1).
The meeting was only the third between the two schools, with Christopher Newport leading 2-1 after today's win. The Captains also defeated the Diplomats last year, making today's victory a second in a row. F&M won the only other meeting in 2014.
