NORFOLK, Va. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team took to the court on Sunday for the second straight day, defeating Virginia Wesleyan 5-4 in the Diplomats' second match of the season.
The victory improved F&M's record to 1-1, while the Marlins fell to 0-1 with the defeat.
By the Numbers
Of the six singles matches, only two went to a third set, of which one was taken by F&M. That victory came from Doug Kaplan at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 in the final match of the day to dramatically clinch the team victory after more than four hours of battle between the squads.
Zack Levin and Inigo Flores also logged singles victories on the day. Levin performed well at No. 2, winning 6-3, 6-3 while Flores won 6-3, 7-5 at No. 6.
F&M took two of three doubles matches from the Marlins on the day, led by Flores' and Vasant Rajamanickam's commanding 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. Levin and Giovanni Corrado combined to win 8-2 at No. 3 doubles.
