Box Score 2 SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's tennis team began its fall slate at the Swarthmore Invitational over the weekend, picking up two doubles wins and seven singles victories. The Diplomats fell to Swarthmore, 12-0, and Haverford, 10-1, on Saturday before claiming an 8-3 win over Stevens on Sunday.
Lorena Saavedra was terrific in her first weekend competing at the collegiate level, earning two singles victories. Saavedra downed her opponent in the No. 5 slot 6-0, 6-2 against Haverford, before winning 6-2, 6-2 against Stevens.
Franklin & Marshall tallied two doubles wins in the victory over Stevens Sunday morning. The duo of
Erin Joo and
Amelia Squires recorded an 8-3 win in the third match. Following Joo and Squires, the pairing of
Jocelyn Chow and
Skye Victor claimed an 8-7 (4) win in the fourth doubles match.
F&M continued its momentum into Sunday's singles matches as the Diplomats earned six wins against the Ducks.
Sophia Rhazali recorded her first collegiate singles win in a 7-6 (9), 7-6 (6) victory in the No. 1 position.
Rebecca Bellick and Squires followed with wins of their own competing out of the No. 2 and No. 3 slots, respectively. Joo and Chow rounded out the Diplomats in the singles matches with wins in the No.6 and No. 7 positions. Joo defeated her opponent, 6-2, 6-4, before Chow picked up an 8-1 win.
Franklin & Marshall gets set to compete in the ITA Atlantic South Regional this upcoming weekend. The regional event runs from Saturday, September 23 to Monday, September 25 with matches starting at 8:00 a.m.
