Box Score 2 SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team opened its fall season at the Swarthmore Invitational over the weekend. The Diplomats took on perennial regional and national powers The College of New Jersey and Stevens in their crossover matches where no team scores were kept.
The highlight of the doubles competition was the pairing of first-years Soren Rudin-Aulenbach and Samuel Donnelly going unbeaten in their two matches against the aforementioned schools. The Diplomats' duo started their weekend with an 8-5 win versus The College of New Jersey before wrapping up their undefeated tournament with a tiebreak victory against Stevens.
Rudin-Aulenbach was a perfect 2-0 against Stevens as he added a 10-point tiebreak win during the singles competition. Going up against the Ducks' Aashi Kulakarni, Rudin-Aulenbach won the first set before dropping the second. Nonetheless, he bounced back by winning 10 of the 12 tiebreak points for his third win of the weekend.
Returners Luke Brodsky and Daniel Feigelson also found success in success against Stevens. Brodsky conceded just five games – winning 6-3, 6-2 – against Stevens' Matt Luzzi. Playing an eight-game super set to get more matches in during the inclement weekend weather that forced competition indoors, Feigelson emerged an 8-5 win against Tristan Woe.
With a weekend of competition under its belt, Franklin & Marshall will now prepare for this coming weekend's ITA Atlantic South Regional Championships. The regional championship gets started on Friday, September 29 and continues through Sunday, October 1. Mary Washington will once again serve as the host site of the championship tournament. Draws for that event will be announced later in the week.
