FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team opened its 2023-24 season competing at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships Friday morning. Mary Washington once again served as the host of the regional championship, which F&M claimed two wins in doubles and four wins in singles on opening day.
Playing in the championship doubles draw, the duo of
Zac Ashtiani and
Gonzalo Gentou downing their opponent from Mary Washington, 8-7. With the win, Ashtiani and Gentou advanced to the round of 32 where the pairing defeated their opponent from Ursinus, 8-5. The Diplomats move into Saturday competition in the Round of 16 beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Franklin & Marshall also had two individuals advance in the B3 Singles Friday afternoon. Top-seeded Gentou downed Deniz Finkel from Ursinus, 8-5, and Kazuki Fukushima from Averett, 8-3. No. 12 seed
Soren Rudin-Aulenbach made his collegiate debut with an 8-4 victory over Gero Siebert from Averett and an 8-0 shutout over Michael Zayneh from Gettysburg. Both Gentou and Rudin-Aulenbach advanced to the semifinals, which will begin at noon on Saturday.
