FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team opened its fall schedule at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships over the weekend. Luke Brodsky highlighted the action for the Diplomats as he advanced to the round of 16 in championship singles.

Starting the tournament on Friday playing eight-game pro sets, Brodsky defeated Ursinus' Teddy Snyder and Washington and Lee's Will Kistler to advance to Saturday's championship action. The ninth-seeded Brodsky opened his tournament with an 8-6 triumph against his Centennial Conference foe before an even stronger 8-5 win over the Generals. Brodsky matched up with another Centennial Conference foe for the Round of 16 where his run closed with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat at the hands of Swarthmore's Lalith Aditya Suresh. Zac Ashtiani was a second F&M representative in the championship singles draw where he dropped an 8-5 match against Swarthmore's Rishi Verman.

Samuel Donnelly had another strong weekend in singles play for Franklin & Marshall as he advanced to the semifinals of the B2 Singles draw. His tournament began with an 8-5 win against host Mary Washington's Rithik Manchala before controlling the match throughout against Johns Hopkins' Pranav Gadirajau via an 8-2 victory. Donnelly played his second Mary Washington opponent of the weekend during the semifinal round, ultimately falling by a 7-5 tiebreak score after he and his opponent split the first 14 games

The Diplomats' only matches of the doubles competition came in the championship draw where Ashtiani and Gonzalo Gentou started their tournament as 6-4 winners against Carnegie Mellon by a 6-4 score. During the round of 32, F&M's duo would give the fifth-seeded pairing from Mary Washington all it could handle before falling by an 8-6 score in the tiebreakers of that match.

Men's tennis continues its fall schedule this coming weekend when the Diplomats head to Philadelphia to take part in the Saint Joseph's Invitational. That tournament begins on Friday, October 4 and will continue through Sunday, October 6.
