FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The No. 39 Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team began its fall schedule with two singles matches at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships, hosted by Mary Washington. With a majority of action starting on Friday, the Diplomats played two matches in the Championship Singles bracket on Thursday.
Luke Brodsky highlighted the day for F&M, earning a comeback victory over Swarthmore's Lalith Aditya Suresh to start the afternoon. After falling in the first set, 6-1, Brodsky fought back to win the next two, 7-5, 10-8, to advance to the Round of 32. Brodsky is set to face Roanoke's Luis Henriquez on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
Zac Ashtiani was the second Diplomat to compete in the Championship Singles bracket Thursday afternoon. Ashtiani fought hard, but was defeated by Salisbury's Asher Willenborg, 6-1, 6-0. With the loss, Ashtiani falls to the consolation bracket, where he will play Haverford's Roberto Vazquez on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
In addition to the two competing in the Championship Singles bracket,
Jack Gelman starts the B1 Bracket,
Nate Arnold begins the B2 Bracket, and
Soren Rudin-Aulenbach gears up for the B3 Bracket.
Franklin & Marshall also starts doubles play on Friday with the pairings of Ashtiani/
Nate Arnold, Brodsky/Rudin-Aulenbach, and Gelman/
Hugh Outwater set for an 8:00 a.m. start time.
