No. 38 Men's Tennis Swept by No. 8 Swarthmore, 7-0

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's tennis team traveled to Swarthmore on Saturday for a national showdown with No. 8 Swarthmore. Unfortunately for the nationally-ranked Diplomats (4-6, 0-1 CC), the Garnet showed (7-4, 3-0 CC) showed why they are a top-10 team nationally during F&M's Centennial Conference opener with a 7-0 win for the hosts.

Swarthmore doubled up the Diplomats by 6-3 scores in the first two doubles matches. F&M put up its best battle in the third doubles match as Tucker Chesman and Jack Gelman jumped out to a 3-0 lead. That duo then held serve to lead 4-1 before five straight games went to the Garnet who ended up sweeping the doubles action.

Carl Kamdin had the tightest battle of the singles action, dropping a 6-4, 7-5 match at No. 4. A break during the second service game proved to be the difference during the opening set, while Kamdin was tied at five-all during the second set before his opponent claimed the last two games. Gelman found himself in another tight battle during singles action as he won seven games across his two sets at No. 6 in the lineup.

Men's tennis resumes its busy weekend with another nationally-ranked opponent on Sunday as the Diplomats travel to No. 30 Salisbury tomorrow. First serves in that nationally-ranked matchup are set for 1 p.m. in Maryland.
