LANCASTER, Pa. – For the first time in her career,
Sahara Ahmad of the Franklin & Marshall women's tennis team has been tabbed the Centennial Conference (CC) Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning. Ahmad became the second Diplomat this season to win the weekly award, following
Natalie Untermeyer winning athlete of the week in early-March.
Ahmad led the Diplomats to two CC victories last week with wins over Bryn Mawr and Washington College. In the 5-2 win over the Shorewomen, Ahmad paired with
Rebecca Bellick to claim a 7(8)-6(6) victory in No. 1 doubles. The sophomore later won No. 2 singles in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.
On Saturday, Ahmad led the Diplomats to its fifth sweep of the season as they blanked Bryn Mawr, 7-0. Ahmad and Bellick eased past their opponents in No. 1 doubles, 6-4 to start the day. The Valley Stream, New York native then won No. 2 singles 7(7)-6(5), 6-4.
So far this season, Ahmad has 10 doubles' wins and six singles' victories.
Franklin & Marshall hosts Dickinson on Tuesday, starting at 4:00 p.m.
