LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's tennis team was honored for its excellence in the classroom as four members were named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Scholar-Athletes. Additionally, the women's tennis team received the ITA All-Academic Team Award.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, a student-athlete must have a grade-point average of at least 3.5 during the past academic year. ITA All-Academic Team status is granted to programs that have a maintained a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.2 or above during the academic year.
The four student-athletes that were named ITA Scholar-Athletes were
Sahara Ahmad,
Rebecca Bellick,
Amelia Squires, and
Natalie Untermeyer.
Ahmad was recognized as an ITA scholar-athlete for the second-straight season. Ahmad earned second team All-Centennial Conference (CC) recognition in singles, earning eight total victories and four CC wins. The sophomore also led the Diplomats with 12 doubles' victories, receiving second team All-CC honors.
Bellick was named an ITA scholar-athlete for the third time in her career to wrap up her senior season. Bellick was tabbed an all-conference honorable mention for singles, while earning second team All-Centennial recognition for doubles. Bellick concluded the year with a team-high 14 wins in singles, primarily playing the No. 3 match. The Chicago, Illinois native also tallied 11 wins in doubles, playing primarily in the No. 1 match.
Squires completed her F&M career being named an ITA scholar-athlete all four seasons. Squires earned five singles' wins with two victories against Centennial Conference opponents this year. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native also notched four wins in doubles, earning two victories in conference matches.
Untermeyer was named an ITA scholar-athlete for the second-consecutive year. Untermeyer earned nine singles' victories with four wins against CC foes, primarily playing the No. 1 match. The sophomore finished the season earning second team All-Centennial honors for doubles, recording 10 total victories during the year.
