LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's tennis team opened its fall season at the Bucknell Invitational over the weekend. Although day two of the event was rained out, the Diplomats were able to get quality competition against both Saint Francis (Pa.) and Slippery Rock during play on Saturday.

F&M found its most success against Saint Francis as the Diplomats swept all four singles matches that were contested between the two schools. The most thrilling of those victories came from Lorena Saavedra as she won a 15-13 tiebreaker to secure the victory. That was one of two victories for Saavedra against the Red Wolves as she also won a 6-1, 6-4 match in singles play. First-years Chloe Monachelli and Ioanna Kyriakidou additionally secured straight set victories against Saint Francis.

Against Division II Slippery Rock, the Diplomats' victory came in doubles as Kyriakidou and Emilia Husieva claimed a 6-4 victory. Slippery Rock – a team that advanced to the NCAA Division II Sweet 16 a season ago – showcased its tremendous talent in the other matches with five victories in singles and three more in doubles.

Women's tennis returns to action this Sunday, September 20 as the team heads to Lafayette for a dual against the Division I Leopards that is set for 9 a.m.
